IMMERSIVE SOUND AND MOVEMENT EXPERIENCE
Created by Francisco López (Immersive sound) and Valentina Lacmanovic (TranscenDance)
Collaborative project proposal for development and performance
BACKGROUND / CONTEXT
Both Francisco López and Valentina Lacmanovic have worked extensively in their respective fields of music and dance with notions of immersion, trance, disappearance of the performer and spiritual enlightenment. Through an extreme focus, deepening and profound exploration of apparently simple elements (repetitive whirling and spiraling, drones and textures from sound environments), their work seamlessly transports the spectator into a hypnotic territory of ineffable experience, a realm where the listener/observer becomes the central figure and where his/her active role is naturally both a necessity and a desire.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION / METHODOLOGY
In this collaborative project both artists will work together for the development of a new piece/experience combining their respective expertise with sound and movement. Bodily sounds from the dancer (breathing, heartbeat...) will be recorded in a wide variety of ways and situations to generate a large source pool of primordial material. All these sonic materials will be worked out through an extensive process of evolutionary transformation in the composer’s studio to generate a multi-channel immersive sound environment. This process will be carried out in an interactive and iterative fashion with the development of the movement component of the piece/experience; sound suggesting movement and movement suggesting sound.
The repetitive whirling as archetype of the movement itself and the textural/spatial complexity of the enveloping sonic environments are the essential tools for taking the audience into a voyage through different levels of perception. The trance-like substance of both elements brings observation and listening into a radically different level, away from contemplation and deep into a cathartic, physical and emotional experience.
