The Kevin McHugh Quartet contains a who's who of the young European jazz scene. Kevin's music springs from cutting edge compositions played with fire, finesse and rebellion in equal measure. In Japan he is active in groups ranging from the experimental music collective Nariiki to noise bands and he also works regularly as a straight ahead jazz musician in myriad settings. Over the years he has performed with Gary Bartz, Billy Hart, Capillary Action to name a few.
For this tour Kevin contacted long time friend and collaborator John Dikeman (they met while both living in Cairo, Egypt) to compile the ideal ensemble to perform his compositions. John has performed with everyone from Godspeed You! Black Emperor and the Cairo Symphony Orchestra to Jameszoo with the Metropole Orkest. He also has regular groups with William Parker and Hamid Drake, is a founding member of Cactus Truck, and is a member of the Dutch Collective Doek. He was said to have the "most powerful voice in the Dutch jazz music of the last decade" In Jazzism magazine.
Matt Adomeit and Tristan Renfrow have worked together extensively in the anarchist uber-jazz band Morgan Freeman. "Nostalgia for post-90’s indie-punk-rock and a free-jazz ethos collaborate to deliver an unabashed deconstruction of transparent compositions. Morgan Freeman represents no more (or less) than the embodiment of the human condition in all of its glory, despair and contradiction." Their ability to deliver instrumental virtuosity and musical erudition with a willingness to explode ideas make them a perfect match for this ensemble.
