20:30 concert Hodiernal Quartet
February 20, 2018 –
The Hodiernal Quartet welcomes you to an earsplitting evening of graphic scores. The program begins with Louis Andriessen's politically charged "Worker's Union: Symphonic Movement for Any Loud Sounding Group of Instruments," and proceeds to Cody Takacs's "Blue Series" (for "Jazz" band) musically representing the works of Sol LeWitt, Pablo Picasso, Jackson Pollock, and Mark Rothko. The inspiration for "Blue Series," Peter Ablinger's "Black Series" (for "Rock" band) based on artwork by Josef Albers, Kazimir Malevich, Piet Mondriaan, and Ad Reinhardt, completes the program with blaring blocks of structured sound.
WARNING: THIS PERFORMANCE WILL BE VERY LOUD!! IT IS STRONGLY ENCOURAGED TO BRING EARPLUGS FOR THE "BLACK SERIES."
